My name is Rebecca Saulteaux from the O'chiese First Nation I am the Liason/Career Mentor for the O'chiese School.I have heard of this workshop through the NADDAP program(O'chiese Health Center)coordinator Sarah Saulteaux. She felt that this was an awesome workshop to attend since I worked in the school and with the majority of the youth.I would sincerely love to attend but due to lack of funds am unable.I was wondering if you could provide us with any type of resource on your workshop without having to attend.I feel that this would be very valuable information and would appreciate your feedback.Thank you

Hi Carol, I see from your comments you are still doing good work out in the communities with High Risk Kids. My work with urban native youth in Vancouver lets me know how much your work is needed. I see you were in Waywayseecappo. Irv used to be principal there and I was the school counsellor (many years ago). Keep up the good work. Addena www.addenasumterfreitag.com

Hi, my name is Ezena Adams. I live in Fairview Alberta. I just returned from Fort St. John, B.C. I attended one of your workshops there. I have to say Richard is inspiring. The workshop was not onlyinformative but fun too. I came away from it with empowering knowledge and a desire to make changes in my family and my community. I am employed at the "Link Youth Center". I now have a better understanding of the youth I work with. I am more aware of their backpacks and I am committed to helping them find ways to cope with their loads and hopefully they will be able to replace their heavey loads with more of what the great Creator meant for them to carry in life. Thank you for helping me see without rose colored glasses. Keep up the great work. I will be "the leg up" when it seemslike 'There ain't nobody coming"

Its was a very positive experience and I am hoping to set up a visit to our community and host one of the workshops. Its funny how we all have the same problems but with a little help from our community members and other communities trying to help the problem. I'm sure that we can all overcome our problems and find solutions to helping build stronger communities. Thanks for the wisdom of these workshops.

I attended the training in Montreal Lake, SK at the end of January. It was awesome! I am so happy I got to be part of that circle of community members, and to see and feel the hope and desire coming from the people. Every activity and exercise we did was meaningful and relevant. The workshop reminded me that we adults are the most important thing in our children's lives, and nothing can replace our love, trust, and attention. Sandy - Montreal Lake, SK

I just finished High Risk Kids Workshop in Edmonton Alberta with Carol. It was amazing. It opened up my eyes. I learn a lot about the past, present and what only one person can do to change the future. I found a lots of resources that I can use and bring back to my community of Siksika Nation. I've got the right information, and I'm excited to stop the cycle with the help of my co-worker that attended with me. Together we can make a difference. I'm glad that I attended this workshop. I would recommend this one to all, who care about the future of our youth. Thank you.

I've recently completed a questionaire for Frontier Collegiate Institute, located in Cranberry Portage. FCI has numerouse students attend thier school from various communities from northern Manitoba. One of my recommendation for retaining kids in school that are staying at the residence provided, is to have the support staff, ie. counsellors, teachers and student, take one of the workshops provided by the recovery foundation. So that they can better understand where these children come from.

Hello! I have had the privilege of participating in two separate workshops facilitated by Richard. It is unforgettable. The way the information is presented makes it easy to comprehend. A lot of work, but worth every minute. What I took away was priceless. "Hi!", to all the participants of Building Stronger Communities for Kids workshop in Thunder Bay. It was a lot of fun. Wishing you all the best for you and your communities. Your friend, Marlene, Longlac

I spent today in a statewide summit on underage drinking prevention. A few of the participants were from a community where the Recovery Foundation has provided multiple workshops, as well as on-going support. One man could not say enough good things about your work and the impact it has had on his village - even now when government funds have run out and they must rely on individuals and volunteer efforts. He spoke of real and lasting change, and gave several examples of what they are doing. Way to go Richard and the Recovery Foundation! a sister from Alaska

Dear Nelson, We appreciate you taking time to comment about our workshops. Our records don't seem to show where you successfully completed any of our workshops. I believe if you had successfully completed our entire workshop, you would have seen that we address the past, not wallow in it, but rather to move forward, so we can heal the present. That healing is done right there in the workshop, as you would have seen. All of our material states that partial attendance and participation is "not advised and is discouraged" just for that very reason. I hope you have an opportunity to maybe participate again in our workshop and this time give it your full commitment and participation. You would see that we are about healing, not wallowing and tears.

Richard Roddy, Pres. Recovery Foundation

Comments

We need to move beyond spending too much time on grieving. We seem to wallow rather than move forward. It is true that this has been devastating, however, we cannot continue to just talk about this. Please change your workshop and help us move forward. A good workshop is not about "tears".

Nelson

The Tuktoyaktuk Building a Bridge for Change fundraising committee was very pleased to be able to bring the adults and youth together to share a common vision for our community. Learning to trust one another will help us communicate our feelings and continue to work together for a brighter future. We further extend our gratitude to Conoco Phillips for funding the Building a Bridge for Change Workshop.
